MOSAIC
Develop a prototypical European AI-enhanced platform, serving as a central, scalable hub for broadcasters and news creators
Project Summary
The MOSAIC project is an ambitious, EU-funded initiative (under the Grant Agreement No – LC – 03303874) aimed at transforming the European media landscape by harnessing the power of AI-driven technologies. Led by Fincons Group, this 18-month project will create a centralized, multilingual, and multimodal AI-based hub to enhance the creation, distribution, and accessibility of media content across Europe.
MOSAIC, which stands for Multilingual Multimodal Centralised AI-based Hub for the European Media Content Market, addresses a crucial challenge in Europe’s media sector: the underutilization and fragmentation of valuable content across linguistic and cultural borders. By integrating state-of-the-art tools such as AI-based translation, automatic subtitling, and content adaptation, MOSAIC will enable broadcasters, media producers, and independent creators to seamlessly repurpose content for diverse audiences, making European media more inclusive, accessible, and competitive.
The project focuses on using AI technologies to enable seamless multilingual translations, providing high-quality subtitles, and adapt content to meet cultural and regional preferences. This innovative approach will help preserve and showcase Europe’s rich cultural heritage, from historical archives to contemporary media, ensuring that Europe remains at the forefront of the global digital media landscape.
Fincons Group, as the project coordinator, leads this initiative in collaboration with a consortium of eleven prominent partners. Through this collaboration, the project will test and validate the MOSAIC platform with real-world applications, ensuring it meets the needs of the media industry while upholding European values of privacy, ethical AI usage, and linguistic diversity.
The MOSAIC project not only empowers media professionals with cutting-edge tools but also engages European citizens by providing new ways to interact with Europe’s vast media archives, ensuring that the continent’s rich media resources are accessible to all. The project will also serve as a key step in boosting the competitiveness of European media organizations in an increasingly globalized and digital-first world.
INFALIA in MOSAIC
INFALIA is responsible for the integration of AI tools for intuitive content searching and categorisation, improving user access and navigation. INFALIA will provide a web-based end-to-end AI-based platform capable of analysing, understanding, and automatically annotating multimedia content. The platform integrates various modules capable of processing, understanding, and tagging multimedia content. MAAM currently offers advanced content-based image and video retrieval that enables the quick identification of visually similar or near-duplicate multimedia (image or video) content. Various content analysis modules can be easily integrated to automatically tag image and video, currently including short captioning of an image or video scene, visual object, action and person recognition and content type identification (e.g., disturbing content).
The platform therefore will serve as a multimedia repository for media professionals, extending its functionalities according to the needs of broadcasters in MOSAIC. Example adaptations could include improved management of annotations and flags by multiple tools, better support for the ingestion of media assets from different sources and AI model training for recognising particular objects, actions or persons that are of interest to broadcasters.
